Focused consultation & referrals

You may need one useful conversation, not a new weekly appointment.

Focused sessions for people sorting through a health problem, a difficult experience with care, or the question of what kind of help to seek next.

Some problems need a place to be organized before they can be acted on.

You may have received a diagnosis and be trying to understand how to talk about it with your partner or family. You may be deciding whether to stay with a doctor you no longer trust. You may know you want therapy but have no idea what specialty, approach, or level of care fits.

A focused consultation gives us time to define the problem, identify what is known and what is still uncertain, and decide what would make the next step more useful.

Focused health consultation

One meeting or a short series can address the psychological and relational parts of illness, treatment, pregnancy, infertility, chronic pain, disability, medical mistrust, or a difficult encounter with healthcare.

We might prepare questions for an appointment, think through how to include a partner or family member, discuss a conflict with a clinician, or make sense of why a medical decision has become so hard to approach.

This is psychological consultation. I do not provide medical advice or replace the physicians responsible for your care.

Referral guidance

Finding a therapist can become a second job at exactly the moment you have the least energy for one. Directories give you names. They do not always help you understand what kind of person, expertise, frequency, or treatment setting you need.

You can tell me what is happening, what has and has not helped before, whether you want online or in-person care, what your insurance or budget allows, and what you are worried a therapist might misunderstand.

I can help you develop a clearer search and, when possible, suggest clinicians or resources to contact. A referral is never a guarantee of availability or fit.

I will tell you if I think the problem needs ongoing or more urgent care.

A focused consultation is not a shortcut around a necessary assessment. If what you describe suggests that weekly therapy, specialized treatment, psychiatric care, or urgent medical attention is more appropriate, I will explain why and help you think through how to pursue it.
