LGBTQ Migration Across Domestic and International Borders: Motivations, Experiences, and Impacts

This new SPSSI/Wiley virtual issue grew out of my advocacy and research work at the United Nations. It brings together scholarship on why LGBTQ people move across domestic and international borders, what they encounter, and how migration shapes their lives.

The Effort to Prove Oneself Not Crazy: A Case Study of AI Dependence

My new article in Psychoanalytic Psychology explores how we can sometimes use AI to make sense of our experiences and reassure ourselves that we are not “crazy” - that we, at our core, have values and feelings based on something reasonable and understandable.

I explore what AI can genuinely offer when we are searching for steadiness and connection, where it can fall short, and how therapists can meet both the person and the AI relationship productively for the therapy, with compassion and without judgment.

Though I discuss a particular case including AI psychosis, the underlying dynamic is fairly universal: we all need to have our perceptions taken seriously, we all fear being dismissed, and it is difficult and important work for us all to build enough trust to really become curious about and familiar with what we feel and believe.

Welcome to Sturdy Psychotherapy

I’m glad you found your way here. I created this practice for people who want a therapist to think with them, tell them what she is thinking, and take the context of their lives seriously.

We offer individual therapy, couples therapy, clinical supervision, and psychological evaluations and documentation. Our areas of focus include relationships, postpartum mental health, health concerns, medical mistrust, identity, couplehood, family, and parenting.

I use this page to write about recurring relationship patterns, becoming a family, illness and healthcare, and the work of building trust in therapy.
